Week Two: Current Events

Today we discussed the shooting that took place in August, involving a member of the class.

We talked about various aspects of the event, which are detailed below:


WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM FACED?

• Crystal was shot
• She was an innocent victim

WHAT WERE THE NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES OF THE EVENT?

• She missed school as a result 
• She was in a great deal of pain

WHAT WERE THE POSITIVE ASPECTS OF THE EVENT?

• She and her family moved to a better neighborhood
• She survived
• She suffered no disabilities from the injury

HOW DID HER ENVIRONMENT FAIL TO ASSIST HER?

• The residents ran at the sound of the gunfire
• Slow response from the medics
• Lack of police presence

HOW COULD THE ENVIRONMENT BE IMPROVED?

• Police presence
• Security cameras
• Neighborhood watch
